2024: Scaffcalc Newsletter, Week 42

Week 42.

Reading time: approx. 6 minutes

Pun of the week:

Why is it important to say "mucho" to your Spanish friends?

The answer is at the bottom of this email.

Hello!

We recently soft-launched Scaffcalc 4 Beta, and usage skyrocketed! The number of projects created per user has more than doubled, and as usual, your creations are among the finest Sweden has to offer – aside from the forests and Carola, of course.

There are too many updates to cover in a single newsletter, so we’ll keep it short and sweet. More updates are coming soon.

In this week’s newsletter, you’ll find:

  • News
  • Suppliers in Scaffcalc
  • Adjustable ledgers and diagonal options
  • Corners – exactly how you want them
  • Place anchors where you need them
  • Consoles in all directions and adjusting guardrails

News

It’s high season, and we’ve had a record month at Scaffcalc! Scaffcalc 3 is being used intensively for design and calculations, and many of you have also tried out Scaffcalc 4 Beta. If you missed Scaffcalc 4, you can find a link to our latest live demo on YouTube below, as well as a link to the latest version.

Suppliers in Scaffcalc

Scaffcalc 4 currently supports the following manufacturers, with more on the way. Layher is our main focus (since 80% of you use it), so the most significant updates happen there first. Other systems will be updated as well, just a bit later.

Adjustable ledgers and diagonal options

Easily select which bay you want to stabilize and add diagonals exactly how you like. You can also adjust the ledger levels freely, only limited by your supplier's specifications.

image

Corners – exactly how you want them

Choose from four corner types. The pink dot shows which standard is shared. Select a bay, click "Create corner" in the right panel, and dock the new bay to the old one. Feel free to experiment with the different corner types in a test project!

image

You can adjust angles, remove inner standards, and strengthen the horizontal bracing as needed. Some functions have moved slightly, so be patient as you get used to the new layout – you’ll quickly find where everything is. With so many new features, it might feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help.

image

Place anchors where you need them

When using the bay tool, you’ll find several modification options in the right panel, including anchor positions. Click to see how the tubes are placed on your scaffold, mark and delete tubes where you don’t want them using Backspace 🔙.

Consoles in all directions and adjusting guardrails

image

Need to vary your consoles? Use our console settings to place them exactly where you want.

Ofcource, you can adjust the size of each of them, as well as deleting the ones that are in the way.

Fall protection

image

With the fall protection settings, you can ensure the guardrail is high enough for safe work.

Ground levels and slopes

image

Scaffolding is often placed on sloped ground or stairs. That’s why we’ve now introduced ground manipulation – the scaffold automatically adjusts to the height of the ground.

Improved maps

image
image

Hold shift and select multiple buildings on the map view to call in an entire block, or even Notre Dame, if you want.

Draw balconies and bay windows: copy+paste

image

Draw a row of balconies, select several, and copy them with Ctrl+C. Then, click Ctrl+V to multiply the objects. The objects will appear where you point the mouse. More shortcuts can be found here.

Strength calculations in Scaffcalc 4?

It takes time to ensure all components work together before we can activate our new calculation engine. That’s why we can’t give an exact date, but we want to thank you for your patience and trust. We’re working as fast as we can to implement it. In the meantime, you have free access to Scaffcalc 3 and its calculations.

The ultimate weather protection tool

In addition to developing Scaffcalc 4 for façade projects, we are working on a new tool for weather protection calculations. Test the loads to find the correct number of counterweights for your bid, or submit it to our engineers for a structural analysis.

It may look like Greek now, but we’re working on an interface that even a jetlagged sloth could understand.

An even sharper Scaffcalc Auto tool

image

We’re revamping the Auto tool so the scaffold automatically follows the building’s height. We also plan to create proper corner solutions for the automatic scaffold – a huge challenge, but one we’re determined to solve.

Did you miss our live demo? Here’s the recording

We planned to show Scaffcalc for 30 minutes, but there were so many guests and great questions that it ended up being over an hour long. Thanks for your engagement!

Need support?

We have a support channel where we try to gather all of you, our awesome users! If you use Support@scaffcalc.com, you’ll get a faster response since it’s an email address we all share.

Thank you for being part of the Scaffcalc family. We look forward to continuing to support you in your scaffolding projects.

AI Artwork of the Week

I’m sure you also do a double take whenever scaffolding appears in a video game or on the news. Below you’ll see how beautiful everything could be if game developers included scaffolding more often.
